Aylesford Bulls RFC

33 - 3

(HT 0-0)

Medway RFC

Aylesford Bulls got their league campaign back on track with a bonus point win against Medway 2nd XV on Saturday.
In autumnal sunshine at the Jack Williams Ground, Bulls ran in five tries and only conceded a last-ditch penalty for a final score of 33-3.
After a cagey start with Medway making lengthy forays into Bulls’ 22 it was eventually winger Tom Hughes who broke the deadlock, gathering the ball out wide and setting off on a trademark weaving run, dodging six defenders to dot down under the posts. Chester Clough added the extras.
Loosehead prop Ed McConnell managed his own, somewhat more modest score, minutes later, gathering a loose ball to twist and turn over the whitewash.
Bulls were beginning to click into gear and knit some nice phases together, only hampered by ill-discipline in the tackle. But it was through their dominant driving maul that the next points would come, captain Ben Pass adding to his account for the season, with Clough’s pinpoint boot making it 19-0.
The half ended with Bulls reduced to 14 men: second row Luke Garnham the recipient of a team yellow.
Number eight Mark Burrows dotted down from the back of a powerful scrum shortly into the second period, with fly half Paul Cooper adding the conversion.
Winger Christian Dolley added the fifth try of the day in the corner – once again converted by Cooper – and was unlucky to be denied a second by an unfortunately placed touch judge.
Medway, by now well beaten, were determined to get something out of the game and continued to push Bulls but were parried by a defence which has improved significantly over the past weeks.
With a minute to go Medway won a penalty for yet another tackle above the chest and opted for the posts, slotting the kick, and bringing the afternoon to a close at 33-3.
Bulls make the short trip to Vigo this Saturday as they look to build on a vastly improved display.
