Aylesford Bulls RFC

42 - 29

(HT 0-0)

Sidcup RFC

Aylesford Bulls ended the season in style with a six-try win away at Sidcup.

On a rock solid pitch Bulls’ young backline ran the show, scoring five of those with Addison Geer’s improbable footwork the pick or the bunch.

In the south London sunshine Sidcup were on the board first, with a converted try inside five minutes.

But the visitors hit back moments later through inside centre Russ Trundle.

His try, and all five which followed, was ably converted by Tom Hughes, standing in as kicker for an injured Fin Ashdown-Denney who finishes just his second senior season as the league’s top scorer.

Hughes’ own record of 19 tries makes him the league’s top try scorer.

Winger Barney Brown, himself on 14 tries for the season, added a 15th next to push Bulls seven points in front.

Sidcup clawed back three but hot-stepping outside centre Geer was then on hand to jink round several defenders and dot down for a third Bulls try.

Never out of touch, Sidcup added their own converted score before Bulls winger Christian Dolley added a bonus-point try for the visitors, putting them 17-28 up at half time.

Sidcup started the second period in similar fashion to the first, a converted try closing the gap to just four points.

But determined not to let the backline have all the fun, imposing lock Luke Garnham soon bulldozed his way to the line to put Bulls back in control.

Sidcup added a fourth try but Bulls scrum half Luke Curtis had the final say, scooting over for a sixth and bringing proceedings to a close at 29-42.

With attacking flair evident, Bulls will be mulling a mid-season rut which left them straggling and ultimately saw them finish seventh in Counties Two.

Bulls 2nd XV lost a hard-fought battle at Dover, 27-17.
