We rolled up at Old Gravesendians today to find parking that rivaled Bluewater at Christmas. The weather started off decent, and after a marathon hour-long warm-up, the boys looked sharp.
The first half was a tight contest, with both teams battling hard. Then Ben Wells lost a shoe mid-game, kicked it off, and sparked some sideline laughter. However after he eventually found and put his boot back on, Ben rewarded us with the opening try. 1-0 to Aylesford at halftime.
The second half saw more action, with both teams making changes. Aylesford’s scrums were strong, and Felix Fielden dazzled with some fancy footwork, weaving past their defense to make it 2-0. Not long after, Felix set up Oscar Veitch for our third try.
Harrison “The Torpedo” Metheringham was unstoppable, taking on their players and leaving a lasting impression with his energy and tackles. Ben Wells capped off the performance by dodging through their team for a moment of brilliance but chose glory over a pass, leading to a quick substitution.
Despite our solid defense holding firm for most of the game, Gravesendians managed to find the try line twice, making the final score 4-2 to Aylesford.
Man of the Match went to Thomas Smurthwaite for his determination with his running and tackling.
Parents' Player to Harrison Metheringham for being a colossus in the middle of the park
Top Banana to Cohen Hui for his outstanding footwork and hard hitting challenges.
A great effort all around—bring on Dover next week!
