Aylesford Bulls RFC

38 - 10

(HT 0-0)

Sidcup RFC

Bulls exploded out of the blocks but laboured in the first 40 and were lucky to go into the break with a 14-3 lead.
After just a few minutes James Alexander galloped in under the posts, a kind bounce collected by winger Sam Tripp who drew his man before finding the hard-running centre in space. Tom Hughes slotted an easy conversion.
Sidcup soon pulled three back after Bulls infringed at the ruck.
Despite Bulls enjoying the lion’s share of possession and territory, for half an hour the scoreboard was unchanged.
As half time beckoned, fly half Si Rumsey pounced, intercepting a wayward pass from the base of a Sidcup maul on their 22 and running in unopposed. Hughes added the conversion.
Poor handling was letting both sides down but Sidcup would pay the highest price when, with seconds to go in the first period, a certain try went begging thanks to an overenthusiastic spin into touch.
Disappointed with a relatively poor return from a dominant forty minutes, Bulls stepped things up in the second half.
It didn’t take long for prolific Hughes to get on the scoreboard, well-executed handling down the line finding him in space on the wing. Fin Ashdown-Denney pulled off a tricky conversion.
Sidcup soon closed the gap with a tap and go from a few metres out but the ensuing conversion would bring their final points of the afternoon.
Hughes added his second after gathering a Joe Temperton crossfield kick and wrong-footing the covering tackler. He converted his own try.
Bulls’ dominant scrum then forced a penalty against the head, with Ashdown-Denney taking the opportunity to add to his tally.
Addison Geer, who had an impressive game at centre, was soon on the scoresheet. Ashdown-Denney converted to make it 38-10.
And there it would stay as Bulls closed the game out with a decent showing up front.
Bulls, second in Counties Two, are next in action against Medway at home on March 21.
