Aylesford Bulls RFC

60 - 7

(HT 0-0)

Medway RFC

Aylesford Bulls ran rampant in the sun on Saturday, notching up a 60-7 win over Medway.
Winger Tom Hughes, comfortably top of the league try-scorer table even before this fixture, had a hat-trick.
While Chester Clough rolled back the years with a hot-stepping performance at centre which at one point saw him leave half a dozen defenders flapping.
Proceedings were off to a flier after just three minutes when Medway broke away only to throw a loose pass, the coughed-up ball was shipped wide to Hughes who won a race down the wing. Fin Ashdown-Denney converted.
Five minutes later Bulls’ scrum looked to have shoved Medway over the line but came up just short. The ball made its way to midfield, where Hughes popped up again, jinking through defenders and under the posts for a second converted try.
Scrum-half Ashdown-Denney showed great vision for Bulls’ third, exploiting an unguarded ruck and scurrying down the wing. His diving finish in the corner will take some beating but he was unable to add the extras.
Clough side-stepped two defenders on his way to securing the bonus point on the half-hour mark. Ashdown-Denney converted.
On the stroke of half-time Christian Dolley bagged the first of two, finishing well down the right wing after Sam Tripp pin-balled his way from 22 to 22 and offloaded sublimely. It was converted to bring the score at the break to 33-0.
Medway clawed one back with a decent break from 60 metres minutes into the second period, but any threat of a comeback petered out.
Sam Tripp was over the line with a simple finish 10 minutes later.
Captain Ben Pass then dotted down from the base of an impressive driving maul for Bulls’ seventh.
Ashdown-Denney converted Pass’ and added a penalty for good measure.
Hughes tore down the wing for his hat-trick after Bulls turned over a Medway scrum.
Bulls' ninth and final try came after Clough danced round defenders and chipped through, the ball skimming beautifully down the touch line and into Dolley’s hands. Final score 60-7.
Bulls, on an 11-game winning streak, face Thanet away on Saturday in a clash likely to determine second spot in Counties Two.
It is one of four games left for Bulls, currently in third five points behind Thanet with a game in hand.
