Last Friday, 15th August, saw Aylesford Bulls Senior Men’s squad take on East Peckham & Paddock Wood RFC, under lights at the Jack Williams Ground.

It was the first time the Bulls coaching staff have had to test the players against live opposition and view how the preseason structures had been received.

Preseason this summer has been moving thick and fast for the Bulls squad with a lot to learn in a short period. So, to see 45 players available, in the middle of August’s holiday season, with each of them getting valuable minutes on the pitch was a credit to the boys. One of the greatest improvements we can see from last year’s preseason is the depth across the squad, providing healthy competition to push the lads to better themselves and the team.

With a combination of 1’s, 2’s and some 3’s players, the coaches were extremely pleased at the lack of drop off in structure shown from all 45 players across the 80 minutes.

Whilst the attack continues to grow in layers, with set piece dominating and a high percentage of red zone entries being converted into points, the Bulls defence proved to be a huge strength again to take into the season, even with EPPW’s hard running with the ball to try and splinter the Bulls line.

Discipline in some areas was lacking and proved costly at times, but we’re confident we will be able to rectify these areas this week ahead of our 2nd test against Sittingbourne RFC, Friday Night Lights on 22nd August at 7.30pm.

A huge thankyou to the supporters, families and friends that attended last week, we look forward to putting on another show this Friday!
