Under the expert guidance of Aylesford Bulls’ own Matt Denney, students from Sport Connect have been rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck into a range of projects designed to enhance the club’s facilities. This week, the students have been actively involved in carrying out a treatment plan for Pitches 1 and 2, learning the ropes of pitch maintenance and turf care and refurbishing the pod pathways.
But the work doesn’t stop there. Next week, the students will take on new challenges, building a brand-new watering system for Pitch 2. This system will allow the club to water both pitches simultaneously a major upgrade that will improve pitch quality and sustainability, and tidying the fence boundary.
This initiative has been made possible thanks to a generous £5,000 winnings from The Good, The Bad, and The Rugby team. The funding has been used to purchase essential treatment materials, replace aging grounds machinery, and acquire the pump and hosing needed to bring the new irrigation system to life.
Matt Denney praised the students’ enthusiasm and commitment: “It’s been fantastic to see them take ownership of the work. They’re not just learning — they’re leaving a lasting mark on the club.”
This collaboration is a shining example of how community partnerships can create meaningful opportunities for young people while delivering tangible benefits to our club.
