Its started. The new season is upon us and the first preseason game for the Mens 1st XV has been played against our old friends from Heathfield and Waldron on Saturday 24th August followed on the 30th August , this time at home and under floodlights against Tonbridge Judds 2’s. With coaches Jon Alderton and David Tenters watching closely to see the impact that the summer training schedule has had on the squad. As well as welcoming many of last years academy players to get a senior debut before they leave us just for a while at universities across the country.
Unfortunately, the Ladies preparation for their new season has been disrupted as their 1st opposition had to pull out, followed by a helping hand to Sevenoaks ladies and a pre season friend away to Eton Manor. They will be continuing their training regime under the new coaching structure and under the watchful eye of our new Ladies Director of Rugby Michelle (Lady Mick) Mayhew. Their first game will be 22nd September against Beccehamians Ladies away and it would be great to get a big crowd to cheer them on the way in their new league. The way they have been training in close season we can expect some great performances from our Ladies.
The minis and youth sections got under way on the 1st September, and I know many cunning plans are being prepared by the coaching and admin teams of each age group to ensure that the ‘Bulls’ remain one of the benchmarks for junior rugby in Kent. But you can’t play if you’re not registered so make sure you sign up as soon as possible to get the season off to a flying start.

The academy will also be starting again with the introduction of last years under 15’s into the fold and its been good to see the academy boys at summer training along with the rest of the adult squads and many of the other age groups.

This summer has seen the club supporting our local community by holding school holiday clubs throughout the summer, in conjunction with Sports Connect- who are now a permeant feature at the club offering higher education and sport qualifications to post 16 students.
HAF Programme
At Sports Connect were delighted to run the Holiday Activity and Food programme during every major school holidays in partnership with KCC, The Education People and Kent Children and Young People organisations.

Our focus was on sport, physical activity, and health sessions and held at our Aylesford Bulls site in Aylesford near Maidstone (ME20 7DS). We have a timetable that encompasses some structured activities to aid development of learning the skills associated with the different activities as well as free time to allow children to explore their imagination and play. Our next holiday club wil be at Christmas, so watch this space for more details
We are a community rugby club and it would be great to get more social members from our surrounding area, as well as former members and players this season. I feel it in my bones that it’s going to be a great season with much to look forward to at all levels across the club. The enthusiasm I get when talking to the coaches and the players at all ages at the ‘Bulls’ is infectious, and we all need to share this with as many people as possible. Why not “Bully’ someone you know to join!!

Talking of which we are always on the lookout for both sponsors and volunteers as we look to develop the facilities and activities at the club. If you think you can help or know somebody that can, then please contact Jayne in the first instance, and she will take it from there. It’s your club so get involved.

One of the ways supporters and sponsors can get involved is to attend one of the club lunches which we hold during the course of the year. These are open to everybody, not just the ‘Old Farts”. Two of the lunches follow the tradition of raising money for the clubs two recognised charities which are the Wooden Spoon (the rugby charity for children) and the other the Royal British Legion (who need no introduction and are our nearest neighbours), whilst the other lunch will be to help raise funds for the club towards our extension plans. This year we will be using a prebooking system and asking for money in advance and to help this there is a simple system in place.

The club plans for its development are well underway and we were proud to show them to Helen Grant MP at the 1st match of the season. With a close match to Sidcup II, 24-28 but a great start to the season with debuts from Dennis Ayres and Travis Coetzer, along with the first DSL man of the match also going very well deserved to Travis. Congratulations to both players who have come through the club youth program. This could be a defining year to see some real changes making us all proud to be a member of the ‘Bulls’ family
